Catholic High Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps
Unit History
Major General Sidney S. McMath USMC, the former Governor of Arkansas, and Congressman Wilbur D. Mills recognized the merits of the Marine Corps Junior ROTC program and took steps to secure a unit for Catholic High School. Father George W. Tribou then principal of Catholic High School, succeeded in 1967 in obtaining approval of the Commandant of The Marine Corps and Secretary of the Navy for a unit at Catholic High School. General Clifford B. Drake USMC officially presented the unit colors on 27 November 1967 during Charter Day ceremonies at Catholic High School. This unit was the third unit commissioned in the United States.

Honor School

In 1971 the Marine Corps began to designate certain units as "Naval Honor Schools with Distinction". The benefit of this designation is that the Senior Marine Instructor can nominate cadets directly to each of the Service Academies. This unit has been designated an "Honor School" each year since 1971.

MCROA Award

The national competition in which the top three units in the nation are selected annually, Catholic High School has received this award nine times. Our unit placed first in 1971, 1982, 1986, and 1990. We placed second in 1981 and 1985, and third in 1972, 1984, and 1992. The MCROA award is based on the annual district inspection as well as all activities of the unit during the school year.
